Mission Statement

We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization, formed more than 40 years ago, that provides a community center for the visual arts. We provide exhibition space for local artists, art classes for people of all ages and abilities, and workshops in various media often conducted by nationally known artists. Our organization includes the Portneuf Valley Photographic Society and the Porcelain Artists of Southeast Idaho. The Art Center is run by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members are artists, patrons and business people from the community.
Parking is available behind the Art Center in the large railroad parking lot.

Classes-- The classes at the Art Center begin each year in January or February. Most of the classes are one day a week for four to six weeks and are taught by excellent instructors. We fill a unique cultural niche in the community with our classes and workshops by offering them to those who want reasonable prices and have limited time. Classes for children and teens are also scheduled every year. Traditional techniques are taught by highly qualified professional artists in subjects such as basic drawing, oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, sculpture and photography. Our classes are scheduled for both daytime and evening hours.
See our Summer Classes for Children. For more information regarding the current schedule of classes, call the Art Center: 232-0970.

Membership-- in the Art Center is a very affordable $25 per year for adults and $15.00 for grade school through high school students. Membership provides reduced fees for classes and workshops; a 10% discount when shopping for art supplies and frames at Cushman's Arts & Crafts.

We send out a monthly newsletter and a yearly member directory; membership provides access to our sizable library of books and VCR tapes available for check-out. All artist-members are invited to hang their original artwork in the gallery. The displays are changed frequently throughout the year and there are special art shows; life drawing sessions with live models; organized outdoor painting sessions and other activities. We sponsor the Sagebrush Arts Fest, held on the second weekend in September, and there are discounts on booth fees with membership; also, we hold an annual Holiday Show and Sale during the months of November-December, which provides a place to come together with other artists to share ideas, techniques and inspiration.

Events--Every spring, Pinehurst Nursery invites members of the Art Center to bring their easels and to paint for a day of “Art in the Garden.”

June 2009 will be the month of our Annual Judged Show. (We do not call it a "juried" show because all entries are accepted. They do not have to be juried in.) All Art Center members are encouraged to enter works of art in this show.
