Classes & Workshops

Classes-- The classes at the Art Center begin each year in January or February. Most of the classes are held one day a week for three to six weeks and are taught by excellent instructors. We fill a unique cultural niche in the community with our classes and workshops by offering them to those who want reasonable prices and have limited time. Classes for children and teens are also scheduled every year. Traditional techniques are taught by highly qualified professional artists in subjects such as basic drawing, oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, sculpture and photography. Our classes are scheduled for both daytime and evenings.

Workshops-- We also offer workshops, which are often 1 to 4-day sessions, from 9:00am-4:00pm (including a break for lunch), taught by well-known professional artists from this region and beyond. These workshops provide a different level of instruction than is available in classes alone.

Carl Purcell, Visiting Artist

October 12, 13, & 14, 2017

We have a sign-up sheet at the front desk. It is $135 for members; $160 for non-members. There is a waiting list now but do signup anyway as there may be openings to be filled. He will take 20 students and you will be painting along with him. The class will not be at the Pocatello Art Center, but located somewhere with a large facility to accommodate his WC classroom. He will be sharing demos, instruc-tion and lectures as well as personal help throughout the workshop. The Art Center is working on a lo-cation and exact time of each day. He will also be doing a demo/lecture on October 13, 2017 for the public. Without this grant your fee would be $450-$550, so this is a wonderful opportunity. The Idaho Community Foundation awarded the Pocatello Art Center a $5000 grant to create a Visiting Artist's Program. To date, Carl Purcell, watercolorist and university professor who has taught painting and drawing in Utah for 30 years will be our visiting artist in October, 2017. Carl is the author of the North Light publications, Painting with Your Artist Brain and Drawing with Your Artist Brain. In addition, his art has been featured in nu-merous articles published in the Artist's Magazine. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, and served as juror for that organization's Annual International Exhibit. He is also an honor member of the Utah Watercolor Society. His work has earned numerous awards, and is in many private and corporate collections. He has had articles published in art journals both in the US and in Great Britain, and his work has been featured in books published in China, the UK Holland and the US. He comes highly recommended by our artists who know him.
